The female reproductive system plays the major role in the pregnancy. On the other hand, the male reproductive system does nothing more than producing the sperms and releasing them inside a female.
The female reproductive organs consist of the following:
- Ovaries
- Fallopian tubes
- Uterus
- Vagina
The ovaries act as the store house of all the eggs all of which are already present at the time of the birth. No new eggs are formed later in the life. After a girl attains puberty, the ovaries start releasing one egg during each monthly menstrual cycle.
The ovaries are connected to the fallopian tubes which are connected to the uterus. When an egg is released from the ovary, it starts its travel towards the uterus. An egg is fertilized by an sperm during its travel in the fallopian tube.
While the egg is released and is traveling in the fallopian tube, the lining of the walls of the uterus become rich in blood and prepares to receive a fertilized egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the uterus discards its lining which passes out in the form of blood during the end of a menstrual cycle. After the menstrual cycle is over, the whole process starts all over again.
If an egg is fertilized by a sperm, the egg gets planted on the thick nutritious lining of the uterus. The egg then starts dividing itself into more and more number of cells. Each cell gets its role to play and its structure from the DNA of the cell. The fetus is fully developed into a baby in about 36 weeks or 9 months, and is pushed out by the uterus through the vagina out of the mother’s body.
