According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, pregnant women need to be vaccinated against the whooping cough during the late second trimester or early third trimester. Up to now, the recommended time for vaccination was until after women give birth.
Whooping cough, also known as pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection. If it happens to infants, many parents may take it to be ordinary cold. As a matter of fact, whooping cough may not always make the whooping sound. However, whooping cough is most contagious before the coughing starts.
Since whooping cough may not be easy to detect before it spreads or becomes dangerous, the best way to prevent it is by using vaccination. The latest CDC recommendation increases the importance of vaccination even more.
